2015 UK AND IRELAND BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL

FESTIVAL THEATRE EDINBURGH
Saturday 24 January 2015 at 7.30pm

I did think that this was a film festival on a mountain. It's actually a tour of films about mountains.

EXTREME ADVENTURES SCREENED IN SCOTLAND’S BIGGEST CINEMA

Big Screen, Big Stories: Travel the world and experience a selection of inspirational, exhilarating and unforgettable adventures from the comfort of your cinema seat at the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.

Now in its sixth edition, the 2015 UK and Ireland Banff Tour will be the largest to date with 82 screenings taking place in 55 locations, including 15 new venues, between 24 January and 6 June 2015. The date at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh on Saturday 24 January will see stories of breath-taking intensity screened in Scotland’s biggest cinema.

I thought that one in Glasgow was the biggest - at least in height. And how does the EFT compare in screen size to an IMAX. And isn't it really a theatre, so not really a cinema?

The festival showcases a diverse collection of the best and latest films from the global mountain sports community. The two and a half hour programme has been selected from over 370 films which were entered into the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival, held in the Canadian Rockies in November 2014. The film programme will be announced in December.

Banff audiences will be taken on a journey around the world, as they get to know the remarkable characters behind the hair raising on-screen action sports, including climbing, skiing, alpinism, mountain biking, adventure travel, kayaking and more.

The people I usually see having accidents on YouTube FAIL compilations, then.

The Tour is much more than a series of incredible film nights. It brings together people with a wide range of outdoor passions who return every year to enjoy the fantastic community feeling of a Banff screening and leave with new enthusiasm and inspiration for their own adventures.

The popularity of the UK and Ireland leg of the World Tour is quickly growing. In 2015, the Tour is expected to bring together more than 45,000 adventure lovers, celebrating the outdoors in unique venues right across the UK and Ireland. The World Tour travels the globe every year, to over 45 different countries from Australia through to Antarctica, being enjoyed by more than 300,000 people worldwide.
