Cachín Cachán Cachunga!

Amphibia in action
A late posting for something I am going to miss. An all too rare appearance of Cachín Cachán Cachunga! in Glasgow. The Zorras curated night - described as "Edinburgh's most consistently radical cabaret" by the theatre editor of The Skinny, if you trust him - decamps to Mono with a line up that includes intriguing burlesque (Tom Harlow and Lola Sparkle), a couple of films (Dandy F. and T.L. Cowan) – and an audiovisual performance by filmmaker Ania Urbanowska (Mantau) in collaboration with Scottish music sensation Michael Weldon.

Part of the fun in Cachín Cachán Cachunga!  is its ability to get away from the traditional cabaret acts and dip into more idiosyncratic performers. Nathan Gale, always worth hearing, is co-hosting, and there is some hip-hop from Nottingham’s El Dia and noise music from Elizabeth Veldon.

This one is a special for the event: the fourth year anniversary and part of LGBT history month. Cachín Cachán Cachunga!  really matters in contemporary Scotland: while much variety plays within a tradition that is ironic and nostalgic, Cachín Cachán Cachunga! has an explicit "the personal is political" edge. Zorras have always been a vociferously engaged presence on the scene, and this night brings together a diverse group of artists, making it both difficult to pigeon-hole and restlessly contemporary.
